What hyaluronic acid filler does

Hyaluronic acid is a substance your body already makes. It holds water, so filler made from it supports and hydrates the skin as well as adding volume. Your body breaks it down gradually, which is why results are temporary, typically lasting 6 to 18 months depending on the treatment.

Used well, filler can soften lines, restore volume that has been lost with age, define a jawline or chin, lift the cheeks and add shape or hydration to the lips. Results are seen immediately, with further improvement over the next seven days as the filler settles and hydrates the area.

Hyaluronic acid filler can also be dissolved if it ever needs to be, using a prescription-only enzyme. Annie offers filler correction and dissolving as a treatment in its own right, including for filler placed elsewhere.

You do not need to arrive knowing which area to treat. A line beside the mouth is often caused by support lost higher up in the cheek, so Annie looks at your whole face before suggesting where filler should go, and sometimes the honest answer is a smaller amount than you expected, or a different treatment altogether.

Comfortable, quick and natural-looking

The treatment itself takes 20 to 30 minutes, within a 45 minute appointment. A numbing cream is sometimes used beforehand, and the filler gel contains a local anaesthetic (lidocaine), so there is very little discomfort.

Most people need no downtime and go back to work and normal activities the same day, although some swelling or bruising is common for a few days. The aim is always subtle, natural results that look like a refreshed version of you. Results vary from person to person.
