What polynucleotides are
Polynucleotides are biostimulators made from highly purified DNA fragments from salmon or trout. These fragments closely resemble human DNA, which is why the skin responds to them so well.
They do more than hydrate. They act as nourishment for the skin's cells, stimulating collagen and elastin, improving the extracellular matrix that holds the skin together, and having an anti-inflammatory effect. They can be used to help prevent signs of ageing or to help skin recover.
Areas that can be treated
Polynucleotides are used on the face, neck, hands and the delicate skin around the eyes. They are injected very superficially, and most people find the treatment quick and comfortable.
Because they improve the quality and resilience of the skin rather than adding volume, they suit people who feel their skin looks thin, dull, crepey or tired. They can also be considered for the look of scarring, which Annie will assess at consultation.
Results and the treatment course
Some people notice a fresher look soon after treatment, with the best results seen at around four weeks as the skin responds. Three treatments are recommended for the best results.
Sessions are usually spaced two to three weeks apart, and Annie will advise on maintenance once your course is complete. Results vary from person to person.

Safety
What you need to know before polynucleotides
Every treatment carries risk. Nothing here replaces the consultation, where all of this is discussed with you before you consent to anything.
Not suitable if
- Fish or seafood allergy, as polynucleotides are derived from salmon or trout
- Pregnancy or breastfeeding
- Active infection, cold sores or inflamed skin at the treatment site
- Autoimmune conditions or immunosuppressive treatment, assessed individually
- Bleeding disorders or blood-thinning medication, assessed individually
Common and expected
- Small raised bumps at the injection points, which usually settle within a day or two
- Redness, mild swelling or tenderness
- Occasional bruising
- Puffiness under the eyes for a few days when the eye area is treated
Serious risks
Serious complications are rare. The main risks are infection at an injection site and an allergic reaction, which is why a fish allergy rules this treatment out and your medical history is checked carefully first. Annie is a member of the Aesthetic Complications Expert (ACE) Group, and you are given a number to call if you have any concerns after treatment.
Aftercare
- Avoid touching or massaging the injection points for the rest of the day
- No makeup over the injection points for twelve hours
- No alcohol, strenuous exercise, saunas or steam rooms for 24 hours
- No facials, peels or other treatments over the area for two weeks
- Protect your skin from the sun while it recovers
Questions
What are polynucleotides made from?
Highly purified DNA fragments from salmon or trout. They closely resemble human DNA, which is why they can stimulate the skin's own repair processes.
Can I have polynucleotides if I have a fish allergy?
No. Because they are derived from fish, polynucleotides are not suitable if you have a fish or seafood allergy. Annie will check this at your consultation and suggest an alternative.
How many treatments will I need?
Three treatments are recommended for the best results, which is why there is a course price of £500 for three.
When will I see results?
The best results are seen at around four weeks after treatment, and they build over a course. Results vary from person to person.
Can polynucleotides treat under the eyes?
Yes. The eye area is one of the main areas they are used for, alongside the face, neck and hands.
Do I need a consultation first?
Every new client starts with a free, in-person consultation with Annie before any treatment is booked. It is where your medical history is checked, your goals are talked through honestly and realistic results are agreed. If Annie does not think you need a treatment, she will tell you.
What is your cancellation policy?
Please give at least 48 hours notice if you need to move or cancel your appointment, so the time can be offered to someone else. Deposits and any late-cancellation terms are shown when you book through the online booking system.
Do you see clients from Norwich and the surrounding villages?
Yes. Annie sees clients at The Orange Grove Clinic in Wymondham, NR18 0BD, with plenty of parking and easy access from Norwich, the A11 and the A47. You can book online, or call 07359 836026 if you would like to talk anything through first.
