Jaw structuring
With age, the bone and supporting tissue along the jaw gradually reduce, and the line from chin to ear becomes less defined. Hyaluronic acid filler placed along the jawline can restore that line, add definition and help the lower face look more structured.
Jaw structuring can also be used for balance, for example to add a little width at the angle of the jaw or to smooth an uneven contour. Results are visible straight away and continue to improve over the following week as the filler settles.
Chin profile balancing
The chin has a large effect on how the whole face looks in profile. A chin that sits slightly back can make the nose look larger and the jawline less defined. A small amount of filler can bring the chin forward or lengthen it slightly, which often improves the balance of the whole profile.
Chin augmentation is often combined with jaw structuring, because the two areas work together. Annie will look at your face from the front and the side before suggesting either.
Full facial contouring
Facial contouring brings the chin, jaw, cheeks and lips together in one plan, for people who would like an overall refresh rather than a change in one area. Treating the face as a whole often gives a more natural result than treating each area in isolation.
If the width of your jaw comes from a strong chewing muscle rather than from bone, filler is not the answer. In that case, jaw slimming with anti-wrinkle treatment may be discussed instead, which is a prescription-only treatment assessed separately.

Safety
What you need to know before jawline and chin filler
Every treatment carries risk. Nothing here replaces the consultation, where all of this is discussed with you before you consent to anything.
Not suitable if
- Under 18s, as cosmetic treatment of this kind is not permitted by law in England
- Pregnancy or breastfeeding
- Active infection, cold sores or inflamed skin at the treatment site
- Known allergy to hyaluronic acid or lidocaine, or a history of anaphylaxis
- Autoimmune conditions or immunosuppressive treatment, assessed individually
- Dental work or vaccinations within two weeks either side of treatment
Common and expected
- Swelling, redness and tenderness for two to five days
- Bruising, which can take up to two weeks to settle
- Small firm areas that soften over the first fortnight
- Tenderness along the jaw when chewing for a few days
Serious risks
The most serious risk with any dermal filler is vascular occlusion, where filler blocks or compresses a blood vessel. It is rare, and it is the reason filler should only ever be given by a medical professional trained to recognise and treat it. Annie is an Advanced Nurse Practitioner, an independent prescriber and a member of the Aesthetic Complications Expert (ACE) Group, and you are given a number to call straight away if you notice unusual pain, whitening or mottling of the skin, or any change in your vision.
Aftercare
- Avoid touching or massaging the area for the rest of the day
- No makeup over the injection points for twelve hours
- No alcohol, strenuous exercise, saunas or steam rooms for 24 hours
- No facials, peels or other treatments over the area for two weeks
- Sleep slightly elevated for the first night or two if you swell easily
- Contact Annie straight away if you notice unusual pain, whitening or mottling of the skin, or any change in your vision
- Avoid very chewy or hard foods and dental appointments for a few days if the jaw is tender
Questions
Should I have jaw filler, chin filler or both?
It depends on your face. The chin and jaw work together, so Annie will look at your profile and front view before recommending one, both or neither. Every new client starts with a free, in-person consultation with Annie before any treatment is booked. It is where your medical history is checked, your goals are talked through honestly and realistic results are agreed. If Annie does not think you need a treatment, she will tell you.
How much does it cost?
Chin augmentation is £220, jaw structuring is £400 and full facial contouring, covering the chin, jaw, cheeks and lips, is £999.
Does it hurt?
There is very little discomfort. A numbing cream is sometimes used beforehand, and the filler gel contains a local anaesthetic.
How long does it last?
Typically 6 to 18 months depending on the treatment. Results vary from person to person.
Can filler make a wide jaw look slimmer?
No. If the width comes from the chewing muscle, jaw slimming with anti-wrinkle treatment may be more appropriate. Annie will explain the difference at your consultation.
Is the clinic easy to reach from Norwich?
Yes. Annie treats clients at The Orange Grove Clinic in Wymondham, NR18 0BD, with plenty of parking and easy access from Norwich, the A11 and the A47. The clinic is relaxed, private and quiet. You can book online, or call 07359 836026 if you would like to talk anything through first.
