A prescription-only medicine, prescribed in person
The medicine used in anti-wrinkle treatment temporarily relaxes the muscles that create expression lines. It reduces the signals between a nerve and the muscle it controls, so the muscle contracts less strongly and the lines it forms in the skin above soften. As the effect wears off, normal movement gradually returns.
Because it is prescription-only, a qualified prescriber has to assess you in person, decide whether treatment is appropriate and prescribe it for you specifically. Annie is an independent prescriber with over 20 years of nursing behind her, so the person who assesses you and writes your prescription is the person who treats you. The treatment is always a separate appointment after the consultation, never on the same day, which also gives you time to think it over.
UK rules do not allow clinics to name or advertise prescription-only medicines to the public. That is why this page talks about anti-wrinkle treatment rather than a product, and why your price is given at your consultation rather than listed here.
Areas Annie can assess
Most people come in about the upper face: frown lines between the eyebrows, horizontal forehead lines and crow's feet around the eyes. A small amount of treatment can also give a gentle brow lift, raising the arch of the brows slightly. These areas often work together, so Annie will usually look at them as a group.
Lower face areas include bunny lines across the top of the nose, a gummy smile, a pebbled or dimpled chin, smoker's lines around the lips, and corners of the mouth that turn downwards. These are finer adjustments, and they need careful, conservative dosing.
Treatment can also be used to slim a wide jaw where the masseter muscle has become enlarged, which is sometimes linked to clenching or grinding (bruxism), and to soften the vertical bands in the neck (a Nefertiti neck lift). Which areas suit you is a clinical decision based on how your muscles move, never just a menu choice.
Softened, not frozen
Annie's approach is subtle and natural. She would rather add a little more at your review than give too much the first time, and if she does not think you need treatment, she will tell you.
Results are usually visible 10 to 14 days after treatment, so judge them at two weeks rather than two days. Follow-up reviews are free of charge and are booked on the day of your appointment, for two weeks after your treatment. The softening of lines typically lasts for up to four to six months, although results vary from person to person.

Safety
What you need to know before anti-wrinkle treatment
Every treatment carries risk. Nothing here replaces the consultation, where all of this is discussed with you before you consent to anything.
Not suitable if
- Under 18s, as cosmetic treatment of this kind is not permitted by law in England
- Pregnancy, breastfeeding or trying to conceive
- Neuromuscular conditions such as myasthenia gravis
- Known allergy to any component of the prescribed medicine
- Active skin infection or inflammation at the treatment site
- Some medicines, including certain antibiotics, can interact, so please bring a full medication list
Common and expected
- Slight discomfort and bruising where the needle went in
- A headache, especially after a first treatment
- Small raised bumps at the injection points, which usually settle within an hour
Serious risks
The main uncommon risk is a temporary drooping of an eyelid or eyebrow, or some asymmetry, caused by the medicine affecting a nearby muscle. These settle as the effect wears off, and careful dosing and placement make them less likely. Very rarely, effects can spread more widely and cause difficulty swallowing, speaking or breathing, which needs urgent medical attention. Annie goes through all of this with you before you consent, and you can contact her at any time if you are worried.
Aftercare
- Stay upright for four hours after treatment
- Avoid rubbing or massaging the treated area for the rest of the day
- No strenuous exercise, saunas, steam rooms or facials for 24 hours
- Avoid alcohol for 24 hours
- Expect little change at first. Lines soften over 10 to 14 days
