Tear Trough Filler in Wymondham, near Norwich

Tear trough filler can soften the hollow between the lower eyelid and the cheek that makes you look tired even after a good night's sleep. It is one of the most delicate areas to treat, and not everyone is suitable, so Annie starts every tear trough treatment in Wymondham with a careful, honest assessment.

What tear trough filler can do

The tear trough is the groove that runs from the inner corner of the eye down towards the cheek. As we age, the volume beneath the eye and in the upper cheek reduces, and the hollow deepens and casts a shadow. A small amount of hyaluronic acid filler, placed carefully, can soften that hollow so the under-eye area looks smoother and more rested.

Filler cannot remove puffiness, fluid or loose skin, and it does not change the colour of the skin itself. When dark circles are caused by pigment or by visible blood vessels rather than a hollow, filler is unlikely to help.

Not everyone is suitable

This is the area where an honest assessment matters most. Tear trough filler tends to suit people with a defined hollow, reasonably good skin quality and little puffiness. If you have noticeable bags, swelling that comes and goes, or very thin skin, filler can make the area look heavier rather than better.

Sometimes the better answer is to support the cheek first, which lifts the area from below, or to improve the quality of the under-eye skin with a different treatment, such as a skin booster. Annie will tell you if she does not think tear trough filler is right for you, in line with the clinic's approach: if you do not need a treatment, it will not be done.

When it is suitable, Annie works conservatively, using small amounts placed deep, close to the bone. It is always possible to add a little more later, and much harder to correct too much.

What to expect

The treatment takes 20 to 30 minutes within a 45 minute appointment. A numbing cream is sometimes used beforehand, and the filler gel contains a local anaesthetic, so there is very little discomfort.

The skin under the eyes is thin, so bruising and swelling can be more noticeable here than elsewhere and can take a little longer to settle. Results are visible straight away and continue to settle over the following week. Results vary from person to person.

Safety

What you need to know before tear trough filler

Every treatment carries risk. Nothing here replaces the consultation, where all of this is discussed with you before you consent to anything.

Not suitable if

  • Under 18s, as cosmetic treatment of this kind is not permitted by law in England
  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding
  • Active infection, cold sores or inflamed skin at the treatment site
  • Known allergy to hyaluronic acid or lidocaine, or a history of anaphylaxis
  • Autoimmune conditions or immunosuppressive treatment, assessed individually
  • Dental work or vaccinations within two weeks either side of treatment
  • Marked under-eye bags, puffiness or fluid retention
  • Very thin or lax skin under the eyes, assessed individually

Common and expected

  • Swelling, redness and tenderness for two to five days
  • Bruising, which can take up to two weeks to settle
  • Small firm areas that soften over the first fortnight
  • Under-eye swelling that can last longer than in other areas
  • A faint bluish tinge if filler sits too close to the surface, which can be corrected

Serious risks

The most serious risk with any dermal filler is vascular occlusion, where filler blocks or compresses a blood vessel. Around the eyes this is rare but especially important, because in very rare cases it can affect vision. This is why tear trough filler should only ever be given by a medical professional trained to recognise and treat complications. Annie is an Advanced Nurse Practitioner, an independent prescriber and a member of the Aesthetic Complications Expert (ACE) Group, and you are given a number to call straight away if you notice unusual pain, whitening or mottling of the skin, or any change in your vision.

Questions

Am I suitable for tear trough filler?

It depends on what is causing the shadow. Tear trough filler suits a defined hollow better than puffiness, bags or pigment. Every new client starts with a free, in-person consultation with Annie before any treatment is booked. It is where your medical history is checked, your goals are talked through honestly and realistic results are agreed. If Annie does not think you need a treatment, she will tell you.

Will it get rid of dark circles?

Only where the darkness comes from a hollow casting a shadow. Dark circles caused by pigment or visible blood vessels are unlikely to improve with filler, and Annie will tell you if that is the case.

How much does it cost?

Tear trough filler is £350. The consultation beforehand is free, and you will know whether you are suitable before anything is booked.

How long does it last?

Filler results typically last 6 to 18 months depending on the treatment. Under the eyes there is less movement than in the lips, so it often lasts towards the longer end, but results vary from person to person.

What if I do not like the result?

Hyaluronic acid filler can be dissolved with a prescription-only enzyme if it needs to be, after a consultation and patch test.

Is the clinic easy to reach from Norwich?

Yes. Annie treats clients at The Orange Grove Clinic in Wymondham, NR18 0BD, with plenty of parking and easy access from Norwich, the A11 and the A47. The clinic is relaxed, private and quiet. You can book online, or call 07359 836026 if you would like to talk anything through first.
