How Dermalux LED works

LED stands for light-emitting diode. Different wavelengths of light are absorbed by the skin and used to trigger its own rejuvenation and repair processes. There is no heat damage, no needles and no recovery time, so you can go straight back to your day.

The Dermalux device can be used on the face and body. Your complexion usually looks brighter straight after a session, and because the benefits build with regular treatment, a weekly course gives the most noticeable change. Results vary from person to person.

What LED can help with

LED is used for a wide range of skin concerns. It can help improve the look of breakouts and congestion, calm the appearance of redness and sensitivity, soften the look of fine lines and wrinkles, and help even out pigmentation.

Because it is gentle and suits all skin types, LED also works well alongside other treatments, such as after a peel or dermaplaning, to soothe the skin. Annie will talk you through whether it is the right choice for your concerns at your free consultation, and if you have a skin condition under the care of your GP or a dermatologist, she will take that into account.

Your session, step by step

Each session follows five steps. Your skin is cleansed, then exfoliated with an enzyme exfoliant to clear the surface. You then relax under the Dermalux LED, with eye protection, before a serum and moisturiser finish the treatment.

Most people find the LED part deeply relaxing. There is no discomfort, just a gentle warmth and the light itself.

Courses, home hire and terms

A single treatment is £50. A course of 6 treatments is £285, taken at a minimum of one a week for six weeks, and a course of 12 treatments is £585, taken at a minimum of one a week for twelve weeks.

Course treatments are paid upfront, and any treatments left after the course timeframe are forfeited, so it is worth booking your sessions in advance.

If getting to the clinic every week is difficult, LED hire is available at £150 per week, so you can carry on your treatment at home. Annie will show you how to use the device safely before you take it away.

Safety

What you need to know before led light therapy

Every treatment carries risk. Nothing here replaces the consultation, where all of this is discussed with you before you consent to anything.

Not suitable if

  • Epilepsy triggered by light
  • Medicines that make the skin sensitive to light, including some antibiotics and isotretinoin
  • Conditions that cause light sensitivity, such as lupus or porphyria
  • Active skin cancer or suspicious, unassessed lesions in the treatment area
  • Pregnancy, assessed individually

Common and expected

  • Gentle warmth during the session
  • Mild, temporary redness, especially after the exfoliation step
  • Slight dryness for a day or so

Serious risks

LED light therapy is one of the lowest-risk treatments available and does not damage the skin. The main precautions are protecting your eyes during treatment and checking for light sensitivity, which can come from certain medicines or medical conditions. That is why your history is checked before your first session and any changes are checked each time. Contact the clinic if you notice anything unusual afterwards.

Questions

Does LED light therapy hurt?

No. It is painless, with just a gentle warmth from the light. Most people find it relaxing.

Is there any downtime?

None. You can go back to work or your day straight after your session.

How many sessions will I need?

Your skin looks brighter after one session, but the benefits build with regular treatment. Courses of 6 and 12 are taken at a minimum of one a week, and Annie will recommend what suits your skin.

What are the terms for courses?

Course treatments are paid upfront, and any treatments left after the course timeframe are forfeited. A course of 6 runs over six weeks and a course of 12 over twelve weeks.

Can I use LED at home?

Yes. LED hire is available at £150 per week, so you can carry on your treatment at home between clinic visits or instead of them.

Is LED suitable for my skin type?

LED suits all skin types. Annie checks your history first, as some medicines and conditions make the skin sensitive to light. Every new client starts with a free, in-person consultation with Annie before any treatment is booked. It is where your medical history is checked, your goals are talked through honestly and realistic results are agreed. If Annie does not think you need a treatment, she will tell you.

What is your cancellation policy?

Please give at least 48 hours notice if you need to move or cancel your appointment, so the time can be offered to someone else. Deposits and any late-cancellation terms are shown when you book through the online booking system.
