What skin boosters do
Skin boosters are an alternative to traditional dermal fillers. Instead of adding volume to lift or reshape an area, they are placed with small needles to improve the structure, texture and appearance of the skin itself.
The result is skin that looks better hydrated, feels firmer and has more of a glow, while your face still looks like yours. They suit people whose main concern is skin that looks tired, dull, crepey or dehydrated, rather than a loss of shape.
Most skin boosters work gradually, encouraging your own collagen and elastin over the following weeks. That means the change is subtle and natural, and results vary from person to person.
Profhilo, polynucleotides and Sunekos
Profhilo is a hyaluronic acid gel with one of the highest concentrations of hyaluronic acid available. It stimulates receptors in the skin to counteract laxity and restore firmness, and is used on the face, neck, décolletage and hands.
Polynucleotides are made from purified DNA fragments from salmon or trout. They do more than hydrate: they stimulate collagen and elastin, support the framework of the skin and have an anti-inflammatory effect. They are used on the face, neck, hands and the delicate skin around the eyes.
Sunekos is an Italian treatment that combines hyaluronic acid with amino acids, the building blocks of collagen and elastin. It stimulates the cells that produce them, and is especially popular for thin, crepey skin under the eyes.
How to choose
If your main concern is laxity and firmness across the face, neck or hands, Profhilo is often the starting point. If you want to improve the overall health and resilience of the skin, or treat the eye area, polynucleotides or Sunekos may suit you better.
If the concern is deeper loss of structure, a biostimulator such as Sculptra or Radiesse may be discussed instead. If you would like a lighter treatment focused on hydration and glow, mesotherapy is another option.
You do not need to work this out yourself. Annie will look at your skin, ask what bothers you most and recommend the treatment, or combination, that makes sense. If she does not think you need a treatment, she will tell you.

Safety
What you need to know before skin boosters
Every treatment carries risk. Nothing here replaces the consultation, where all of this is discussed with you before you consent to anything.
Not suitable if
- Pregnancy or breastfeeding
- Active infection, cold sores or inflamed skin at the treatment site
- Known allergy to any ingredient, including fish allergy for polynucleotides
- Autoimmune conditions or immunosuppressive treatment, assessed individually
- Bleeding disorders or blood-thinning medication, assessed individually
Common and expected
- Small raised bumps at the injection points, which usually settle within a day or two
- Mild swelling, redness or tenderness
- Occasional bruising
Serious risks
Serious complications with skin boosters are rare. The main risks are infection at an injection site and, very rarely, an allergic reaction to the product. Annie uses careful aseptic technique, is a member of the Aesthetic Complications Expert (ACE) Group, and you are given a number to call if you have any concerns after treatment.
Aftercare
- Avoid touching or massaging the injection points for the rest of the day
- No makeup over the injection points for twelve hours
- No alcohol, strenuous exercise, saunas or steam rooms for 24 hours
- No facials, peels or other treatments over the area for two weeks
- Protect your skin from the sun while it recovers
Questions
Are skin boosters the same as filler?
No. Fillers add volume to lift or shape an area. Skin boosters improve the quality of the skin itself, its hydration, firmness and texture, without changing your contours.
Which skin booster is right for me?
It depends on your skin and what bothers you most. Profhilo is often chosen for laxity, polynucleotides for overall skin health and the eye area, and Sunekos for crepey skin under the eyes. Annie will recommend one at your consultation.
How many sessions will I need?
Most skin boosters work best as a short course. Polynucleotides are usually given as three treatments and Sunekos as a course of sessions, with maintenance afterwards. Annie will give you a clear plan and price before you book.
When will I see results?
Changes build gradually as your skin responds, usually over four to twelve weeks depending on the treatment. Results vary from person to person.
Do I need a consultation first?
Every new client starts with a free, in-person consultation with Annie before any treatment is booked. It is where your medical history is checked, your goals are talked through honestly and realistic results are agreed. If Annie does not think you need a treatment, she will tell you.
What is your cancellation policy?
Please give at least 48 hours notice if you need to move or cancel your appointment, so the time can be offered to someone else. Deposits and any late-cancellation terms are shown when you book through the online booking system.
