Can you remove my skin tags, and should I get this mark checked?
Skin Tag and Lesion Removal in Wymondham
Most skin tags, warts and age spots are harmless and can be treated simply. Moles and anything that has changed need more care, and every lesion is assessed properly before anything is removed.
Skin tags, viral warts, verrucas, seborrhoeic keratoses (raised, crusty age spots) and rough patches of sun-damaged skin are common and usually harmless, but many people find them annoying or would simply prefer them gone. Moles are different. Most are harmless too, but they are the marks most worth keeping an eye on.
Every lesion starts with a consultation with Annie at the clinic, where she looks at the mark and talks through your concerns. If a lesion is not suitable for treatment in clinic, or anything about it looks suspicious, she will not treat it. Instead she will recommend mole screening or refer you to your GP or another appropriate medical practitioner.
Cryotherapy uses liquid nitrogen, usually applied with a fine spray, to freeze the lesion. The freeze itself takes seconds and needs no local anaesthetic. After a few days a scab forms, which takes one to two weeks to come away, and the area usually goes on to look normal. Larger or thicker lesions may need up to four sessions, four weeks apart. Skin tags can also be removed with a plasma pen.
Mole screening uses the Map My Mole service. Annie examines the mole or mark with a dermoscope and takes detailed photographs, which are reviewed by Map My Mole dermatologists. You receive a report within 24 to 48 hours saying whether the lesion is suitable for removal in clinic or whether you should see your GP. Annie takes the images and looks after you, and the opinion comes from the dermatologist.
A reassuring report is not a guarantee for the future. Keep checking your skin and seek medical advice if a mole changes in size, shape or colour, bleeds, itches or looks different from your other moles.
When this is not the answer. If a mole or lesion is changing quickly, bleeding or worrying you, do not wait for an appointment at the clinic. Contact your GP or NHS 111 straight away.
