Tear trough filler

What to do

  • Avoid touching or massaging the area for the rest of the day
  • No makeup over the injection points for twelve hours
  • No alcohol, strenuous exercise, saunas or steam rooms for 24 hours
  • No facials, peels or other treatments over the area for two weeks
  • Sleep slightly elevated for the first night or two if you swell easily
  • Contact Annie straight away if you notice unusual pain, whitening or mottling of the skin, or any change in your vision
  • Avoid eye makeup and rubbing your eyes for 24 hours

What is normal

  • Swelling, redness and tenderness for two to five days
  • Bruising, which can take up to two weeks to settle
  • Small firm areas that soften over the first fortnight
  • Under-eye swelling that can last longer than in other areas
  • A faint bluish tinge if filler sits too close to the surface, which can be corrected

When to call

The most serious risk with any dermal filler is vascular occlusion, where filler blocks or compresses a blood vessel. Around the eyes this is rare but especially important, because in very rare cases it can affect vision. This is why tear trough filler should only ever be given by a medical professional trained to recognise and treat complications. Annie is an Advanced Nurse Practitioner, an independent prescriber and a member of the Aesthetic Complications Expert (ACE) Group, and you are given a number to call straight away if you notice unusual pain, whitening or mottling of the skin, or any change in your vision.

The clinic number is 07359 836026. If you are worried, call or message rather than wait. If you cannot reach us and it is urgent, call NHS 111, or 999 in an emergency.
