Microneedling

What to do

  • Avoid makeup for 24 hours so the skin can settle
  • Wear a broad spectrum SPF 50 every day, and avoid sunbeds and direct sun
  • Skip retinoids, exfoliating acids and scrubs for at least three to five days
  • Avoid saunas, steam rooms, swimming and strenuous exercise for 48 hours
  • Keep your skin clean, use gentle products and sleep on a fresh pillowcase
  • Let any flaking come away naturally, without picking

What is normal

  • Redness and mild swelling, similar to slight sunburn, for 24 to 48 hours
  • Slight pinpoint bleeding during treatment and possible bruising
  • Dryness, tightness or light flaking for a few days as the skin renews

When to call

Microneedling is a low-risk treatment when carried out by a trained medical professional using sterile, single-use needle cartridges. Infection, prolonged redness, changes in pigmentation and scarring are uncommon, and the risk is reduced by treating only healthy skin, following your aftercare and using sun protection every day. Annie is an Advanced Nurse Practitioner and a member of the Aesthetic Complications Expert (ACE) Group. Contact the clinic straight away if you notice increasing pain, heat, swelling or discharge.

The clinic number is 07359 836026. If you are worried, call or message rather than wait. If you cannot reach us and it is urgent, call NHS 111, or 999 in an emergency.
